Can a metal detector locate my diamond earrings?

I lost my diamond earrings earlier today in my grass backyard.
I KNOW they are there, but the cheap metal detector I bought right away broke or died within minutes of using it. The earrings have white gold or platinum around them. I tried to understand your question but I just can’t get over the fact that you lost DIAMOND earrings in your backyard.

I do not think that a metal detector will work. Maybe a really nice one would. Perhaps the thing to do is to calm down so you don’t smash it into the earth. Then, get a magnifying glass and get on your hands and knees just like Rick Moranas in Honey I shrunk the kids. Be patient. If you KNOW they are there, they will be there. Do not check in the morning or the dew may sparkle like your earrings. Check on a dry day in the middle of the day or right before dusk. That way, the sparkle will catch your eye.
Have a dog? Don’t let them outside or they may eat it.
If these were really expensive or are very special too you, the drastic thing to do is to let your lawn die, set small controlled fires, and the only thing left should be your earrings.
I did that once to literally find a needle in a hay stack.
How do you find a needle in a hay stack? Set the haystack on fire.

Try looking for them a night with a flashlight. A good quality metal detector will find them, you have to set the sensitivity high.
